The University of Haifa mourns the passing of Zev Jalon, member of the Board of Governors and a dear friend of the University of Haifa. Mr. Jalon was 84. For many years he was Chairman of the University’s Committee for Physical Development and was a central partner in the physical development of the University as a public representative. He accompanied the planning process for the University’s master plan, which was passed in 1999 and serves the University to this day. The University has since doubled its built-up area in accordance with the master plan. Mr. Jalon was active in overseeing the construction of the Lord Anthony and Lady Evelyn Jacobs Building for the Graduate School of Business and Department of Computer Science, the Social Sciences building, and the Arts Center; the expansion of the Hecht Museum; the construction of the scenic road alongside the campus; the establishment of the Talia dorms; and more. Most recently he ensured the approval of the University’s new master plan for the coming decades.
Over the many years that Mr. Jalon was dedicated to the University of Haifa, he invested much of his time in the institution, deeply identified with its unique role in weaving Israel’s social fabric, and considered his contribution an intrinsic part of his responsibility for the public.
The University of Haifa parts with Mr. Zev Jalon with sincere respect and appreciation.
