A Memory on Display
Over the course of 30 years, the well-known Swiss art collector Dr. Oscar Ghez de Castelnuovo, collected works by people who perished in the Holocaust. In 1978 he donated 137 of those works by 18 different artists to the University of Haifa. The collection is on display at the University’s Hecht Museum.

Continuing the Connection
The University’s Friends & Alumni Association held a launch event at the University, attended by guest of honor Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg, Chairman of the Council of Higher Education’s Planning & Budgeting Committee, and hundreds of University of Haifa alumni, including Ruben Eblagon, Chairman, Rosario Capital; Sharon Nissim, General Director, Kishon River Authority; Yossi Elbaz, CEO, Domino’s Pizza Israel; Gil Dankner; business leaders; and others. Gas Leaks Off Coast
The terms “gas” and “sea” for many will invoke associations of reserves, business, and a lot of money. Whatever the association, most of the efforts in Israel’s energy field are being directed at gas buried deep under the Mediterranean seabed. Now a new geophysical study, the first of its kind in Israel, has uncovered a system of active gas springs in the Haifa Bay seabed, at relatively shallow depths, only a few dozen meters below the surface. Celebrating 40 in London
Gerald Ronson CBE receives University’s Carmel Award of Merit
Some 200 people attended a celebration of the University of Haifa’s 40th anniversary dinner at Claridge’s in London. The event, hosted by Sir Maurice and Lady Hatter together with Isaac and Myrna Kaye, is the launch of a new fundraising initiative to bring the wealth of top Israeli scientists back to Israel’s Universities. Gerald Ronson CBE received the University’s Carmel Award of Merit for his tremendous contribution to education, and speeches were made by keynote speaker Ed Balls MP, the Shadow Chancellor, Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks and Israeli Ambassador Daniel Taub. Canadian minister honored in Toronto
More than 550 guests filled the Concert Hall at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York on November 4th, to pay tribute to Jason Kenney, Canada’s Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism. Minister Kenney received an Honorary Doctorate degree from the University of Haifa in recognition of his dedicated leadership; his steadfast position against antisemitism, racism and intolerance; his solidarity with the State of Israel; his condemnation of Israel Apartheid Week; and his friendship with the people of Israel. Going Green
The University of Haifa has dedicated Israel’s first research center for Green Roofs Ecology, which will focus on research and development of non-irrigated green roofs; improving biological diversity with green roofs; and developing ecological and evolutionary theories. The center has been established thanks to a generous gift from a British expert in the field, and was facilitated by VP for External Relations and Resource Development Amos Gaver. Continue Reading »
