The University of Haifa will be honoring Israeli entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist Benny Landa, at the 40th Meeting of the Board of Governors (3-5 June, 2012). The University of Haifa is conferring an honorary doctorate upon Supreme Court Justice Salim Joubran during the University’s 40th Board of Governors Meeting, taking place June 3-5. Joubran is receiving the honor for his many years of distinguished service to the legal profession and for his efforts to improve Jewish-Arab relations and create a more just and equitable society in Israel.

At “Israel-Europe Day” that was held at the University of Haifa, the topic of “Centrality in Israel-EU Relations” was addressed by EU Ambassador to Israel Andrew Standley, former Israel Ambassador to Germany Shimon Stein, Member of the European Parliament Bastiaan Belder, and Director of the University of Haifa’s National Security Studies Center Dr. Dan Schueftan.

A new survey from the University of Haifa has found that 40% of Arab youth in Israel were personally willing to volunteer with the civil service in 2011, compared to 53% in 2009. It has also shown a drop in public support for the civil service: 62% today as compared to 68% in 2009 and 78% in 2007. “Nevertheless, the support percentages are still high”, researchers Prof. Sammy Smooha and Zohar Lechtman indicated.
