Adversity and enrichment at a young age can influence the next generation, according to psychologists at the University of Haifa. Prof. Micah Leshem headed the team along with Prof. Jay Schulkin of Georgetown University and postgraduate students Hiba Zaidan and Neta Kvetniy- Ferdman, They published their findings recently in the journal Developmental Psychobiology.

Professor Daniel Gottwein of the Haifa University claims there is a massive difference between the Israeli and British protest. “In Israel it’s a protest of the middle class which views itself as the pillar of society and is struggling for a social agenda,” he said. “In Britain, however, it is members of the lower classes and minorities who protest. They see themselves as society’s rebels and are therefore not part of the rules of the game.”

If the health system wants to reduce the length of elderly patients’ hospitalization and save money, the simplest way to do so is by encouraging them to walk around the wards. This is the lesson of a new University of Haifa study that found such simple exercise significantly cut the number of days these patients stayed in the hospital.

Hyraxes, sometimes knows as rock rabbits, are fuzzy, cute and, in Israel at least, becoming a serious pest in residential areas, scientists say. The animals have moved into neighborhoods of Galilee and have been destroying people’s gardens. “They’re coming into the villages and eating everything they can find,” University of Haifa researcher Arik Kershenbaum told the BBC.
